We understand that many people are nervous about visiting the dentist, and others have a fear of anaesthetic delivered by injection. If this sounds like you, then one of the easiest solutions is having your dental work performed using nitrous oxide sedation – Commonly known as ‘Happy Gas.’ Nitrous Oxide (N2O) is a colourless, odourless gas that has no taste, but it does have sedative and analgesic effects.

The process for inhaling nitrous oxide is simple: We position a nasal hood comfortably over your nose through which you breathe in the nitrous oxide gas – The more you breathe the more effective the gas.

If you are having nitrous oxide sedation you don’t need to fast or follow any other pre-appointment instructions.

Simply come in

  • Be administered the nitrous oxide (happy gas)
  • Be able to drive away

The effects of nitrous oxide include:

  • Feelings of light-headedness and warm sensations.
  • A feeling of wellbeing, euphoria and or floating.
  • During heavier sedation hearing may dissolve into a constant hum – but you can still hear.
  • At a deeper level of sedation sleepiness may occur.
